Last weekend I had the amazing opportunity of attending a few fashion week events. New York Fashion week is something I have always dreamed of attending and experiencing. Having just recently moved to the city and being a photographer, I decided I was going to put myself out there and go to events not only for viewing, but for networking.
The first event I attended was the Portreys NY Fashion Week Streaming Party at Flavorpill in SOHO. I was a bit nervous, because I was going alone, but after being there for a few minutes I began to introduce myself to people and spark up conversations. From talking about fashion to my photography, I became comfortable pretty quickly. I stayed there for about an hour and half, finally, three coconut waters and two cupcakes later, it was time for me to hop on the subway and go to my next event.
The second event I went to was the Small Boutique Fashion Week show at Studio 450 Penthouse. Which was geared more towards indie fashions. This event was so cool because it gave up and coming designers the opportunity to debut their designs. Camera in hand, I spent the show not only seeing amazing designs, but trying to capture some pictures and video footage.
The day finally came to an end and I was exhausted and ready for a long night of sleep before my 9 AM Monday morning class. This was one of the most exciting experiences I have had since I moved to the city. Hopefully next fall or even this spring I’ll be able to go to more Fashion Week shows (I’m coming for you Alexander Wang).
Thank you guys for reading.
Lots of love,
